Flathead Valley Fishing Report for Week of April 8th 2024

Swan Lake

The lake is open with excellent pike fishing reported at the south end, using dead bait and large plugs. For lake trout, check out the river mouth area.

Thompson Lakes

Waters are open across the lake. Anglers in Upper Thompson report catching a few notable pike, while Lower Thompson is a good spot for targeting both pike and rainbow trout.

Smith Lake

This lake is bustling with activity, as many small pike are biting on smelt and spinnerbaits.

Echo Lake

Bass fishing is thriving in 12-15 feet of water. Effective lures include swimbaits and jerkbaits.

McGregor Lake

Trolling along the shorelines with flicker shads and flatfish lures has been successful in catching rainbow trout.

Flathead Lake

The East Bay is currently hot for perch fishing 🔥, with additional action from pike and bass. In the north at Somers Bay, pike are being caught using large tubes or dead bait.

Whitefish Lake

Good catches of pike in the bays, with large swimbaits or dead bait proving effective.

Koocanusa

Near the Rexford area, trolling with Dave’s plugs or flies alongside planer boards is yielding good results for rainbows.

Loon Lake (Bigfork)

The trout are biting well here, with flies or traditional bait fishing both proving successful.
